Some time ago a friend's child was put into a forced coma after an accident, and she always wondered if he could hear her when she spoke to him. This is how I imagined the scenario.
HALFWAY
I wake up on a bouncy cloud.
'What? Where am I?' I ask aloud.
Then looking down to my surprise,
I clearly see with x-ray eyes,
me! - lying quietly in my bed
while next to me stands Uncle Fred.
He’s reading from my favourite book
of Peter Pan and Captain Hook.
He pauses every now and then
and sighs and starts to read again.
Then Mummy comes and takes my hand
and talks to me of Neverland.
I smell her perfume, sweet aroma.
‘Oh! Michael, come out of this coma.’
’What’s a coma?' I ask my friend,
She flaps her wings. ‘It’s time to send
you home again. You have to be
back in your room, in time for tea.’
She smiles and waves as I descend,
'Enjoy your life my little friend'
