WRITTEN FOR MY SON (RIP PHILIP)

Who told me poetry went right over his head so I asked him to give me a first line so that I might write a poem he did understand. It worked!
PASS THE SOAP
Said Daisy coyly “Pass the soap
forget your rubber ducky.
I’ll scrub your back if you’ll scrub mine.”
Said Edward, “You’ll be lucky!
.
Now move your feet, they’re in the way
my ducky wants to swim,
and I need lots of elbow room
to launch my submarine.”
.
Incensed, the furious Daisy rose
and stepped out of the tub.
“What happened to the romance, Ed ~
now you prefer your sub?”
.
She donned a robe and dried her hair
and screamed and cried and taunted,
but Ed, absorbed by duck and sub
ignored her rage undaunted.
.
So Daisy, bitterly bereft
said “Ed, you're such a dope”
then dropped the drier in the bath.
“You should have passed the soap.”
