 JENNY ~ (A KEATS SONNET)

Jenny danced as though her toes touched flames,
waltzed with grace through carefree childhood days
bathed in hours of sunshine, light and gay.
At twenty she discovered lover's games
to supersede her winsome childish ways.
One May time hailed the coming of a bride
demure and radiant on her wedding day
sharing a life now with her darling James,
turning to the future, her eager gaze.
Now aged and alone - her reason prey
to voids; stray thoughts, elusive, peek and hide.
From time to time a ghost of memory slips
to sweep those opaque curtains open wide
and paint a fleeting smile upon her lips.
