WATERFALL
At its source, droplets
congregate in furrows
the whispers call an
invitation to impromptu
dance
rain runs in rivulets,
soft sounds become a
mumbling
bubbling over boulders
it gathers greater
momentum
tumbling and twisting
hurrying and hastening
propelled to the precipice
it leaps like suicidal
lemmings
From a great distance.
the white water appears
spectral
it writhes, wraithlike
shimmering softly;
unsubstantial
sparkling droplets
reflect a rainbow’s
spectrum
as we approach
the sound begins to swell
nearer still now,
the rushing waters roar
mightily
gasps of wonder greet
the sight of nature’s noble
majesty
Clothes are cast away,
feet fumble over rocks
diving beneath the deluge
we surface, shrieking with delight
